In an incredible atmosphere against two tradition-rich Arkansas high school football teams, the Rivercrest Colts beat Warren 24-14 to advance to the 4A State Championship!
The Colt offense put up 503 yards and held the Lumberjacks to 150 yards including 10 carries for (-33) yards. That Rivercrest offensive line paved the way for the Colts to put up 434 rushing yards. That rushing attack was led by Koby Turner who topped the century mark for the 6th consecutive game as he finished with 29 carries for 261 yards and 2 scores.
The Colts broke a scoreless tie in the 2nd quarter with 7:43 remaining as Marcus Slayton smashed his way in the endzone from 4 yards out. The 2-point failed but the Colts led 6-0. After forcing a 3 and out, Rivercrest put together a 10 play 66 yard drive that ended in a 3 yard touchdown run by Koby Turner. Marcus Slayton tossed it to Michael Rainer for the 2-point conversion to put the Colts up 14-0. A good return and a put pass play, put Warren at 1st and goal from the 10. The Lumberjacks picked up 5 on the first play. On the next play, DT Marcus Clark sacked Warren's quarterback for an 11 yard loss and helped the Colts keep a 14-0 advantage going into the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, Warren tossed a 21 yard touchdown. A bad snap on the point after was recovered by Wyatt Lancaster and Rivercrest led 14-6. On the ensuing drive, the Colts put together a 5 play 80 yard scoring drive highlight by a Koby Turner 56 yard run on a 3rd and 1 and was capped off by a 14 rushing score by Turner. Cavonta Washington tossed a pass to Slayton for the 2-point to extend the Colt lead 22-6. Warren ran 2 plays on next drive. The first was a sack by Wyatt Lancaster for a 7 yard loss and the 2nd was 9 yard sack by Slayton and Andrew Lomack for a safety to go up 24-6. After taking out most of the starters, the Lumberjacks tacked on a score and 2-point to set the final 24-14.
Slayton finished with 10 carries for 55 yards and Cavonta Washington had 17 carries for 60 yards. Buddah Harris grabbed 4 passes for 42 yards. Slayton had 6 tackles, 2 TFL, 1/2 sack, safety, and a forced fumble. Koby Turner had 5 tackles and 3TFL to go with his 261 rushing yards. Lancaster had 5 tackles, 2 TFL, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery. About a month ago Mrs. Cain reached out to the elementary classes asking if they would color some monsters. A few classes joined in and Mrs. Cain's FACS classes got busy making their drawings into stuffies! Today they delivered the stuffed monsters back to the elementary classes and it was a huge success! The kids loved them!
